Its smooth single-strand construction virtually disappears when coated with UV resin or epoxy, making it an excellent choice for saltwater baitfish patterns, transparent streamer heads, shrimp flies, scuds, nymph ribbing, and flies that need a clean glassy finish.
Unlike standard nylon or polyester tying thread, Veevus Mono Thread allows underlying materials, flash, tinsel, body colors, and synthetic fibers to show through. Veevus Mono Thread is ideal for tying:
0.10mm / 0.004" - Best for smaller trout flies, dry flies, delicate freshwater patterns, small bonefish flies, light saltwater flies, subtle ribbing, and low-bulk segmented bodies. Black 0.10mm is especially useful for ribbing nymphs, scuds, and caddis pupae.
0.20mm / 0.008" - Best for larger flies, bass bugs, pike flies, muskie flies, saltwater streamers, predator patterns, mono extensions, weed guards, and heavy-duty streamer heads. This size is excellent when strength, durability, and resin integration are priorities.
Because mono thread is smooth and round, use careful pinch-wraps and slightly firmer tension to prevent slipping on slick materials or coated underbodies. A small drop of superglue, UV resin, or head cement can help lock wraps in place.
For streamer heads, baitfish profiles, and epoxy-style saltwater flies, tie materials in with Veevus Mono Thread and finish with UV resin or epoxy for a seamless glassy look. The mono will nearly disappear into the coating, leaving the flash, fibers, and body materials cleanly visible.
