Built to drive tight loops and maximize line speed in real saltwater conditions, the ECHO OverCast was created after Flip Pallot posed a simple challenge: “Who wouldn’t want more line speed?” Designed alongside master rod builder Tim Rajeff, the OverCast is purpose-built for the everyday realities of saltwater fly fishing—wind, long shots, quick presentations, pinpoint accuracy, and heavier flies.
After extensive testing in Florida’s toughest environments, ECHO landed on a key performance advantage: a precisely engineered longer lever. The result is a 9’3” saltwater fly rod that delivers extra power and line speed without sacrificing control, tracking, or feel. It’s a rod made for anglers who want to pick up line fast, punch casts into a breeze, and still land a fly softly when the shot matters most.
The OverCast series spans 6–10 weight fly rods, covering everything from flats species to nearshore predators. Whether you’re throwing bigger crab patterns, bulky baitfish flies, or dealing with constant crosswinds, this rod is tuned to help you carry more line, generate higher line speed, and hit targets with less effort.
Those wraps forward of the logo aren’t random—they’re the OverCast’s at-a-glance line-weight identification system. Inspired by old-school line marking, the wraps use:
So a 9-weight shows one thick wrap + four thin wraps (5 + 4 = 9). When someone calls out “Grab the 9 weight!” you don’t have to rotate rods and hunt for printed markings—you can identify it immediately from any angle, even on a crowded flats skiff.
You’ll also notice elongated dash marks on either side of the reel seat. Those are subtle pointers to the hook keepers hidden in the top of the reel seat, similar to ECHO’s 84B design—keeping the profile clean and functional while still giving you a quick place to secure your fly.
The OverCast represents over a year of development and testing, much of it in Florida’s harsh saltwater environments. Although Flip passed before final production, his vision, creativity, and insistence on performance-over-compromise live on in every OverCast rod—making this series both a high-end saltwater tool and a lasting tribute to one of the most influential voices in saltwater fly fishing.
