Best for tyers who want longer, more usable fibers for wrapping bodies, forming wing cases, tying tails, and creating consistent fly patterns across multiple hook sizes.
Middle-to-Upper Feather Fibers
Great for stronger tips, cleaner segmentation, and slim nymph bodies.

For clean nymph bodies, select several even fibers from the middle or upper section of the feather and tie them in by the tips. Wrap forward with smooth tension to create a slim, segmented abdomen.
Pheasant tail fibers can be delicate, so reinforce wrapped bodies with fine copper, brass, or gold wire. Counter-ribbing helps protect the fibers from trout teeth and makes the finished fly much more durable.
For wing cases, gather a flat section of fibers and pull them over the thorax before tying off behind the bead or hook eye. A small drop of UV resin or head cement can help strengthen the wing case and add a subtle natural sheen.
