Marabou Brothers Peacock Flue Strung

Marabou Brothers Peacock Flue Strung is a premium natural peacock herl fly tying material packaged in a convenient 4-inch strung strip for easy handling at the vise. Known for its rich green-to-bronze iridescence, fine fibers, and natural shimmer, peacock flue is one of the most effective materials for adding lifelike depth and insect-like texture to fly patterns.

This strung peacock herl material is ideal for tying buggy nymph bodies, thoraxes, wet flies, dry fly bodies, collars, streamer accents, and classic trout patterns. Whether used on a Pheasant Tail variation, Prince Nymph-style body, soft hackle, attractor nymph, or small streamer detail, Marabou Brothers Peacock Flue adds a natural metallic glow that fish respond to well.

Why We Like It

Marabou Brothers Peacock Flue Strung is a timeless fly tying staple because it delivers natural flash without looking overly synthetic. The iridescent fibers shift between green, bronze, and dark metallic tones, making them excellent for imitating insect shells, legs, thoraxes, and segmented bodies. We especially like it for nymphs and wet flies where a small amount of natural shimmer can make the entire pattern look more alive.

Top Features

Excellent Buggy Texture
Fine herl fibers create natural movement, segmentation, and a soft insect-like profile on bodies and thoraxes.

Tying Tips

Peacock herl is naturally delicate, so choose the fullest, most vibrant strands before tying in. Look for fibers with strong green-to-bronze iridescence and trim away overly dull or brittle sections when needed.

For stronger bodies, tie in 2 to 3 strands of peacock herl together and twist them lightly with your thread to create a reinforced herl rope. This helps prevent breakage and makes the wrapped body more durable.

Use hackle pliers to hold the tips and maintain steady tension while wrapping. Smooth, even wraps create cleaner segmentation and a fuller, more uniform body.

For heavily fished nymphs or wet flies, counter-rib the peacock body with fine wire or secure the wraps with a light coat of head cement. This helps protect the brittle fibers and keeps the fly fishing longer.
