Tie the tinsel in at a shallow angle on the near side of the hook shank to help it start smoothly and lay flat. Use steady, even tension as you wrap so the mylar sits flush and creates a clean metallic finish.
For ribbing, counter-wrap the tinsel over dubbing, floss, or body material to improve durability and help prevent the rib from sinking into body grooves. For full bodies, wrap edge-to-edge over a smooth thread base to create a polished silver or gold finish.
To make the body more durable, coat wrapped tinsel sections with a thin layer of UV resin, head cement, or varnish. This helps protect the smooth mylar surface from fish teeth, repeated strikes, and general wear.
