Veevus Body Quill is a synthetic spooled fly tying material designed to create smooth, naturally ribbed bodies on nymphs, Perdigons, dry flies, midges, and small technical patterns. Built from a pliable synthetic film, it gives fly tyers the clean segmented look of natural peacock or goose quill without the same fragility, stiffness, or prep work.
Its thin, translucent profile makes it especially useful for slim-bodied flies where proportion and segmentation matter. Whether you are tying Blue-Winged Olive dry flies, Baetis nymphs, blood midges, Euro nymphs, or resin-coated Perdigons, Veevus Body Quill helps build realistic bodies with a polished, durable finish.
Veevus Body Quill is an easy way to get the look of a natural quill body with more consistency and less frustration. It wraps smoothly, creates natural segmentation, and works beautifully under a thin coat of UV resin for a glassy, wet-looking finish. We especially like it for small nymphs and dry flies where bulky materials can quickly overpower the pattern.
Veevus Body Quill is ideal for tying:
For the brightest color and best contrast, use a white or light tan thread underbody before wrapping Veevus Body Quill. The translucent material allows the base color to shine through, helping the finished body look cleaner and more vibrant.
Wrap with even, touching turns to maintain a smooth, flat profile and avoid separation in the material. Use moderate tension while wrapping, since pulling too hard can snap thin synthetic strands.
For maximum durability and shine, finish the body with a thin coat of UV resin or head cement. This locks the quill in place, protects the wraps, and creates a clean glassy finish that works especially well on Perdigons, midges, and slim nymph patterns.
