Join Us For The Great Fall Muskie Hunt 2013
This fall we will be heading to the Upper Mississippi River to chase trophy muskies with our good friend Kip Veith of Wildwood Float Trips. Kip and Pat Ehlers of The Fly Fishers have been friends for years and they have teamed up for this trophy quest, October 11th to the 13th. We will be fishing the Leech Lake strain of muskellunge. These are some of the biggest and fastest muskies that inhabit North America.
We will be staying at Maddens Gull Lake Resort in Brainerd, Minnesota. Each day will start with breakfast and a discussion of the days fishing. You will fish a different stretch of river each day. Lunch will take place on the river along with soft drinks and coffee. At the end of the day we're back at the resort for dinner and to get ready fior the next days hunt.
The trip cost for the 3 day event is $1195. This will include 3 days of guided fishing with Wildwood Float Trips, 3 nights lodging, breakfast and lunch each day and dinner on Friday and Saturday nights. Last year's trip saw a number of muskies caught up to 49". This year we're looking to get a 50 incher!
Call or email Pat at 414-259-8100, pat@theflyfishers.com or Kip at 612-723-7438, kip@wildwoodfloattrips.com for more information or to sign up. We only have room for 8 anglers.
Mexico 2014
Mexico is one of our favorite saltwater destinations. With a great chance at a Grand Slam (tarpon, bonefish and permit) or even a Super Slam (plus a snook) this is a great fly fishing destination. Our 2012 trip saw a Super Grand Slam, 3 Grand Slams along with 10 permit caught as well as lots of bonefish and tarpon.
For 2014 we are staying at the Grand Slam Lodge in Punta Allen. We have shifted gears going to Grand Slam and are very happy to be staying at this beautiful lodge and confident that you will have a great time. Add in superb food, great service, a friendly staff and a beautiful stretch of beach right out the front door of your bungalow and you have a fantastic fly fishing destination.
We can help you plan your own fly fishing adventure or join us on our trip in March, 2014. Call Pat at 414-259-8100 or email him at info@theflyfishers.com for help in booking a trip.
Tarpon, bonefish, snook and lots of permit is what Boca Paila is all about. It is probably the best destination to not only catch a grand slam but to catch a super slam. We're heading there next March. Our 2014 dates are March 15th to march 22nd. Escape the winter with us in Mexico's Ascension Bay. Call Pat at 414-259-8100 or e-mail him at info@theflyfishers.com for more information.
Flyfish Guanaja 2014
We have been checking out a number of places and have found a lodge that I think is a very special find. It boasts of one of the finest permit fisheries on the planet, large bonefish and tarpon as well as other species. Check out the information below. We are talking about the island of Guanaja just outside of Roatan, Honduras. Flyfish Guanaja is owned by Steve Brown of Colorado. Steve guides out of Colorado in the summer and heads south to Guanaja in the winter. There's so much to tell you I don't know where to start but I guess I will start with the fishing. We stay on the south side of the island, in the south cays to be exact. There is fishing on all 4 sides of the island. This is not a big fishery so while we will be the only anglers, there is plenty of room to fish. There is not a lot of boat running. A trip to the north side of the island only takes about 25 minutes and that's the farthest (opposite side of the island) run. Fishing is a combination of wading and boat fishing. Guanaja has sand, grass and coral flats surrounding it. Flies have to have weed guards but there is a well supplied fly tying area and the guides will add any needed weed guards to your flies. These guys love experimenting with new patterns and the tying bench sees a lot of use.The Fish: Honduran bonefish regularly run 5 to 8 pounds and 10 pounders are caught in front of the lodge. Guanaja has a very good permit fishery, one of the best in the world in fact. The south cays have permit tailing all over the flats and there are also lots found in deeper water and in river mouths. Permit fishing is permit fishing but this is one of theee places to go for them.Tarpon and snook are found on the north side of the island. This is more of a mangrove type area. Baby tarpon from 5 to 30 or 40 pounds are always present and are sight casted to in these areas on moving tides. There are giants found right near the docks of one of the towns too. They are there feeding on the chum of the commercial fishermen's fish cleanings. Flies dead-drifted in these areas can lead to hook-ups on tarpon well over 100 pounds. While this isn't classic tarpon fishing it becomes a cultural event as the locals cheer you on while fighting the big girls. There's worse ways to spend a few hours. Snook fishing can be very prolific here as well. There are lots of cudas, jacks and even trigger fish to be caught here as well. Triggers can run up to 25 pounds and are a fun change of pace. We have caught these before and they are pretty cool. The food here is very good. The lodge provides us with our own chef that has been trained in some of the finest schools in the US. They provide a very extensive menu. Local rum, beer, tequila and soda is included in the price. Honduras is an English speaking country and the folks here are very friendly. Most of the tourist trade is diving and kite sailing and the locals appreciate the tourists. The price for 6 days/7nights is $3600 including the bar tab. For an additional fee diving can be added to the trip if you like.Roatan is easy to get to from Houston, Atlanta and Miami. We would fly to Roatan and take a short flight to Guanaja. The lodge would arrange this flight.
The lodge only takes 8 anglers per week.

If you are looking for a place to catch large northern pike on a fly look no further. Midnight Sun Trophy Pike Adventures can boast of being the best fly fishing destination for pike anywhere. We have been hosting group trips here for years and the fish never quit amazing us. Jared Ehlers of The Fly Fishers has been guiding at MSTPA for five years now so we have a great relationship with them.
You will be fishing for pike on a river system that is over 200 miles long and MSTPA is the only operation on the river. You will stay on a the Midnight Sun a beautiful houseboat in the middle of the wilderness with showers, carpeting, your own stateroom and a chef on board. The lodge uses custom made skiffs with large casting platforms to make fly casting easy. You will be casting to pike where you will have a legitimate chance at a 50-inch pike everyday. Sheefish are also in the river system giving you an opportunity to catch a fish that is only present in 7 river systems in the world. This is the finest fly fishing for pike anywhere. It is shallow water with extremely aggressive fish.
Call Pat or Jared at 414-259-8100 or email them at info@theflyfishers.com for help in booking a trip.
MSTPA has kept the price the same for 2012 but the trip is now 6 days of fishing instead of the 5 it has been. With only 4 anglers per week you can basically have all of the monster pike to yourself. We have 2 weeks reseved at MSTPA in 2012. Week #1 - August 25th to August 31st. Week #2 - September 1st to September 7th. Join Pat from The Fly Fishers for these exciting dates. Pat will shooting a video and a DVD during the 2012 trips which will make for even more fun in 2012. This is the time of the year to catch the giant pike as the season comes to an end. These dates won't last long as we already are booking for 2013. The trip price is $3995 which includes 7 nights and 6 days of fishing. Contact Pat or Jared at 414-259-8100 or email at info@theflyfishers.com for more information or to sign up.
Check out Pat Ford's book Flyfishing Dreams. Pat did a chapter on MSTPA.
Rated one of the Top 10 Forbes Life Fly Fishing Lodges in the world Agua Boa is one of the finest fishing lodges you can fish. Agua Boa is extremely remote but has unbelievably deluxe accommodations featuring cottages for two that have air-conditioning, twin queen size beds and tiled private bathrooms. The lodge has a swim-up bar on its 20-meter swimming pool, dining room, great food and even satellite TV and wi fi connections for those of you who need to stay connected.
As for the fishing, this is a crystal clear river system that boasts of great numbers of peacock bass with large peacocks being caught here too. This is a fly-fishing only lodge to protect the fish as only barbless single hooks are allowed to protect the fish but weighted flies can be cast with spinning gear. Guides use poles and paddles to get anglers into casting position and there are even some wading opportunities available. There are 18 species of fish that have been caught on flies in the Agua Boa so peacocks aren’t the only species available to the angler. This fishery, because of its spring fed nature, remains very consistent in water flow. This is an issue that causes problems for many other lodges.
We would be happy to help you book your peacock bass fly fishing adventure or you can join one of our hosted trips to Agua Boa. Call Pat at 414-259-8100 or email him at info@theflyfishers.com for help in booking a trip.
